Art—GMs

With two of his recent paintings rounding out the ultimate GM fantasy trilogy and featuring Chevys and Pontiacs, Michael's GM portfolio is continually growing. From the Corvette, Camaro, Nova and Chevelle, to the Buick GSX, Impala, and Oldsmobile 442, and including Pontiac's finest; the GTO and Firebird, this collection is fuelled by Michael's love of powerful cars and his own personal experiences. Some of which include owning a 1973 Camaro LT and a 1971 Firebird Formula.

“I wanted to create a tribute to all the car enthusiasts of the past that were compelled by the need for speed, to preserve and maintain these pieces of American history and for abiding by the car lovers unwritten motto, ‘There’s always room for one more!’"- MICHAEL IRVINE “I wanted to create a tribute to all...

“After spending a few days under the tents at the Barrett-Jackson Auction, surrounded by some really nice cars, it was time to experience Arizona's 70 mph speed limit! The drive provided the inspiration I needed. The desert-like terrain offers the perfect setting for preserving muscle cars. I chose the Firebirds because we own one, and with Phoenix just... “After spending a few days under the...

“I've always liked the Camaro, even owning and restorng a '73 at one point. When I saw the aggressive lines of the new retro body style, I knew I was going to do another painting! I wanted to bring across the idea of classic and new — a 'back to the future' kind of a thing — bringing the viewer from then to now. That's why I utilized the big sky, to... “I've always liked the Camaro, even...

“... talking with “Jerry” about the field of Corvettes really peaked my interest. So much so, that I decided to create a painting of the location, based solely on my mind’s interpretation of 'Jerry's' description. I personally have not seen this field of more than 500 Vettes, nor do I now it's exact location — I wish I did. So, please, don't call or email... “... talking with “Jerry” about the...

“I'm a big fan of car chase movies, and a few years ago I did a painting called "End of the Line" in which I chose to feature my 5 favorite chase flicks. I've been asked many times over the years why 'Smokey and the Bandit' didn't make the cut. It is a great film and definitely makes my top 10.  I've thought about doing a second painting with my next 5... “I'm a big fan of car chase movies,...

“I’ve always liked the Chevelle and in convertible trim its sleek lines really come together. Wanting to capture the exhilaration of driving such a powerful car, I needed the right setting. I thought what better place to be with your car than on an open country road with fellow Chevelle owners, in friendly competition, doing what these high performance... “I’ve always liked the Chevelle and...

“In my opinion, and I don't think I'm alone in this, 1979 brought us great music, great movies, and great fashion! LOL. It also offered up one last chance to order the Pontiac 400 W72 with a 4spd combo or the Chevy 350, before they were dropped from the option list the following year. Since then, these cars have become sought after by collectors. The... “In my opinion, and I don't think I'm...

“As an artist who also collects cars, I want to create scenes and stories that intrigue me and other like-minded people. With that in mind, I painted 'Always Room For One More' 8 years ago. With this piece, I'm matching scale, size, proportion and color palette, but also nuances of my style back then. Let's just say, this painting was definitely... “As an artist who also collects cars,...

"I've heard the Olds 442 referred to as the 'gentleman's muscle car'. But there's no mistaking these powerful machines, especially out on the open road. That's why I chose the quiet rural setting, it gave me the opportunity to be able to show these cars at speed. And to be able to view them from a low perspective, focusing on those cool air scoops and... "I've heard the Olds 442 referred to...

"This painting began with the idea for a series called "Above Them All." Originally I wanted to feature cars that were somehow unique, special or historically significant. As I sketched out concepts, I realized I could incorporate the play on words and have the viewpoint taken from above. In this case, directly above the driver. While painting, I... “In creating a trilogy like this, the challenge is bringing the three paintings together to make one grand story. Each piece needs to work with the other two, as well as stand on it’s own. I painted ‘Always Room For One More’ in 2007, so really, this idea came together over an 8 year period. I wanted to bring to life the excitement of collecting cars and... “In creating a trilogy like this, the...

“Whether you're hauling, towing, pushing, or pulling, a truck does it all. And farm trucks, well they truly do it all! That's what I was thinking about when I came up with this painting. That, and I do really enjoy painting landscapes! I chose sunrise for two reasons; first the idea of the endless possibilities of a new day ahead is exciting, and second... “Whether you're hauling, towing,...
