“Many of the roads we’ve traveled have taken us through beautiful farm country across North America. Images of rolling hills, flat fields, and old barns really inspired me when I started this series. Putting the cars in a natural environment allows me to play with cast shadows and sunbeams. And, it allows me to add other elements like the tractors. I thought about including three more cars, but when researching old farm buildings I came across a photo of a Ford-powered tractor. After finding that the tractors came in ‘red, white and blue,’ I knew I had to make them part of the story."- MICHAEL IRVINE

In 2006 Michael released “Big Blocks Behind the Barn”. The idea for the painting was based on the legendary barn find that automotive enthusiasts and car collectors dream about and some are lucky enough to find. Taking the dream to the next level, what if you happened upon such a gold mine of muscle cars, but what if you discovered that the cars beyond the buildings were even better than those inside? That would be the ultimate barn find.
13 years later, Michael decided to build on this imaginary dream find of cars with “Blue Blocks Behind the Barn”. A continuation of the original scene, in this much-anticipated sequel (or maybe it’s a prequel since it joins the scene to the left of the first painting), you find more cars powered by Ford’s blue engine, including the Boss Mustang, Cougar Eliminator, Cyclone Spoiler, Torino Cobra and more. There's also vintage iron like the 1953 Golden Jubilee Tractor. What makes this painting even more exciting is that there will be a third — making this another stunning, highly collectible trilogy, or possibly even a quadrilogy if Michael decides to release a fourth painting!
