"A few years back, while at the Wellborn Muscle Car Museum, we were given the chance to visit the Talladega Superspeedway and experience our first live Nascar race. What made it even better for me, was seeing over 70 Aero Warriors take to the track. Had it not been for Nascar's rules to make at least 500 of them available to the public, these incredibly wild looking cars would not have seen the showroom floor and would not be part of our muscle car history today. I wanted to pay tribute to that, and to create a powerful scene that would portray the battle of wits, the battle of wills, the battle of makes, and the battle of the track itself."- MICHAEL IRVINE

1969 to '70 was an exciting time in Nascar history. The tracks were fast, the cars built for speed, and the drivers fearless. In this incredible painting, Michael captures the high-charged excitement, energy, drama and exhilaration as drivers like Richard Petty, Buddy Baker, Charlie Glotzbach, Bobby Issac, Bobby Allison, Pete Hamilton and David Pearson push their aero-cars to the limit at record breaking speeds.
With its 33-1/3º, five story high bank, Talladega is still the fastest track in the world. In 1970, the aerodynamically designed Dodge Daytona, Plymouth Superbird, Ford Torino Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II were the fastest cars. In "Battle on the High Bank", the action is fast and furious as drivers Cale Yarborough, Ramo Stott, Jim Vandiver and LeeRoy Yarbrough fight for position as they race towards the finish line.
