Artist Proofs with Custom Done-to-Order Remarques
Like our Limited Edition Prints, Artist Proofs (AP) are an exact size reproduction of Michael's original watercolor paintings with a difference—the addition of an original drawing or original painting (known as a Remarque) by Michael in the lower margin, and the extremely low edition size.
In the past, reproductions were usually lithographs or serigraphs and the technology was such that there was a deterioration of the printing plates during the run. A lower number print had a greater value, because it was likely a better reproduction. APs were those prints (usually 10% of the run) that the artist 'proofed' peronsally.
Today, to ensure the best possible quality, we employ two methods for archival art reproduction—offset lithography and giclée printing. Offset lithographs utilize metal plates which are destroyed at the end of the run, while giclée printing does not utilize plates. With either method, the chances of imperfections are unlikely. In addition, Michael inspects (proofs) each print as he signs it. So, how to make an Artist Proof truly unique and of a higher value? Customize it for the collector.
Michael remarques your Artist Proof per your wishes. Artist Proofs are available with a single (1) or double (2) Remarque. You can have as much, or as little, influence on the Remarque(s) as you'd like. If you would like something truly personal (for example your classic car) as the Remarque, please email us photos so that the painting/drawing will be of your actual car.
Only 20 Artist Proofs are released for each painting (less than 3% of the print run). Your Artist Proof is dated for the proofing and Remarque completion, titled, numbered with the AP designation, and signed by the artist. Each remarqued Artist Proof is embossed with Michael's Studio Seal and is accompanied by a signed/numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
Artist Proofs with Custom Done-to-Order Remarque are of special interest to collectors because of their uniqueness, rarity and the extremely small number released. Owning one is owning a small one-of-a-kind original.
Artist Proofs are produced on 10pt, satin finish, acid free, museum quality, archival paper using lightfast archival pigment inks. Remarques are approximately 1.5 - 2" high x 3 - 4" wide.
